Rogaine (Minoxidil)

It’s true that Rogaine does work for most people. It’s about 82% of peopel that use it that end up at least seeing a decrease in their rate of hair loss. So, there are plenty of people who would swear by it.

I’ve explained how minoxidil works in a few different places on this site, but I’ll explain it again here.

When DHT is produced in our body, it starts to bind to your hair follicles, which causes them to receive less oxygen and therefore function less efficiently. Once they start receiving less oxygen, they start to shrink. First the hair that grows out of them is minaturized, but then over time the follicle will completely stop working when becomes too small to produce hair.

Minoxidil essentially helps to increase the blood flow to the scalp and the individual follicles. Once blood flow increases, the hair follicles begin to grow larger and produce normal-sized hair again. So, the faster you can start using a product that does contain minoxidil, the faster you can start growing hair again.

One thing you have to consider, however, is that minoxidil is still not the perfect hair loss product. Products that contain other ingredients such as Saw Palmetto, Zinc, Uva-ursi, and other natural ingredients tend to have a higher success rate.

Minoxidil also only helps with hair loss in the crown of your head, whereas the ingredients mentioned above can help with hair loss on other places of the head as well. Therefore, it’s a good idea to find a product that contains minoxidil AND those other ingredients.
